How to Try Aerial and Circus Classes in Geelong
The easiest way to try aerial or circus classes in Geelong is with a Starter Pass at CircArts: three beginner classes for $55, used within 14 days, at our studio in Grovedale. Kids, teens and adults can all start this way. Adults don't need any fitness or flexibility to begin.
Here's how it works, which class to pick, and what to expect when you walk in for the first time.
The short version
Pick your age group. Kids (5 to 11), teens (12 to 17) or adults (18+).
Book a Starter Pass. Three beginner classes for $55, to use within 14 days.
Choose your classes. Any beginner classes on the days that suit you.
Get a recommendation. After your classes, a coach will suggest where to go next.
That's it. No contract to sign up front and no pressure to commit on day one.
Why three classes beat a single trial
One class tells you if you like the idea. Three classes tell you if you like the thing.
Your first class is mostly new faces, new words and new equipment. By the second, you remember the warm-up and a skill or two. By the third, most people notice something has changed: the climb feels a bit higher, the cartwheel a bit straighter, the nerves a lot smaller.
Three classes also let you try more than one style. You could take an aerial class one day and an acro or handstands class the next, then decide what you love.
Which class should you book?
Kids aged 5 to 11
Kids start in a Discover class (Level 1). There are three to choose from:
Discover Circus: a mix of handstands, tumbling, aerial silk, trapeze, aerial hoop, hula hoop, juggling and balance.
Discover Aerial: climbing, hanging and shapes on silks, trapeze and lyra.
Discover Acro: rolls, cartwheels, handstands and partner balances.
Kids classes run after school on weekdays from 4pm, and on Saturday mornings. You can find more detail on our kids circus classes page.
Teens aged 12 to 17
Teens start in a Beginner (Level 2) youth class, and we group them by skill, not just age. A teen with lots of gymnastics experience may start higher after a coach check. If you're not sure, text us your teen's age and experience and we'll point you to the right class.
Adults 18 and over
Adult classes run on weekday evenings. Good first classes include Discover Aerial, Aerial Silks, Low Flow Trapeze, beginner acro and handstands. Our members include adults well over 50, so there's no "too old" here. See all the options on our adult circus and aerial classes page.
Babies and toddlers
For little ones from 9 months to 4 years, Tiny Circus runs on weekday mornings with a parent or carer in the room. You can try three classes with the $55 Starter Pass or book a casual class. To keep going, there's a one-off $50 Welcome Kit (their CircArts t-shirt plus joining their membership), then weekly billing.
Do adults need to be fit or flexible to start?
No. We hear this question a lot, and the answer is always the same.
Beginner classes are built for people with no experience, no strength and no flexibility. Coaches break every skill into small steps and give options for different bodies. You build strength for aerial by doing aerial. You don't need to get fit first.
If you have an injury or a health condition, tell your coach before class. If you're unsure whether aerial suits you right now, check with your GP or physio first.
What happens in your first class
Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early. There's 5-minute drop-off parking out front of Warehouse 33, 33/8 Lewalan Street, Grovedale.
Warm up together. Every class starts with a warm-up to get joints and muscles ready.
Learn low, then go higher. Skills are taught close to the mats first. We teach strength before height, and there are crash mats under every apparatus.
Small groups. There are a maximum of 8 students per coach, so you get real feedback and spotting.
Kids classes are drop and go. Parents can wait in reception or pop out and come back for pick-up.
Expect tired forearms after an aerial class and a few "oh, that's what that muscle is for" moments the next day. It settles quickly.
What to wear
Fitted activewear (leggings or bike shorts and a fitted top)
For aerial: leggings that cover the backs of your knees and a top that covers your underarms
No zips, buttons or jewellery
Hair tied back
A water bottle
Most classes are done barefoot or in grip socks. Unicycle and circus skills classes need closed-in shoes.
What happens after your Starter Pass?
Your coach will recommend the class that suits you best. If you'd like to keep going, memberships start from $34 a week. Kids and teens pay a one-off $149 Welcome Kit (CircArts tee, grip socks and a Skills Passport). Adults have no joining fee.
Every membership comes with our Love It Guarantee: you can stop within your first 4 weeks with no notice period. All the details are on our pricing page.
